Residency!

So I've been at the Osage Arts Community for just about two weeks now doing my residency, what an amazing experience! Here, I live on a farm. A literal farm, with cows and chickens and pastures and farm dogs. I have to say, I really enjoy it. Being surrounded by all of this rolling landscape, vibrant color, positive energy, animals, calm river and isolation from other humans has been very beneficial to my work. I have been spending close to ten hours a day in my studio and the rest helping out here at the farm. Tonight, I taught a drawing class at the 'Osage Arts Center and Gallery', which went really well. 15 students came to my class, which I designed as an abstract drawing class, and made really creative work. The age range was all the way from 5 to 65! It was nerve racking for me to teach to such a broad range, however, it ended up being really beautiful how all age groups interacted and supported each other. THANK GOODNESS. I’m pleased to say Carolina (my dog) has fit in really well the dogs here at the farm, of which there are four. They all became a pack right away and I took it to be a positive sign that things here were going to be healthy and productive. My work has already blossomed into exciting new and diverse paths for me to explore. I have continued my work with gravity and the tension of hung objects, but am beginning to introduce new materials (such as cement, salt and driftwood) and techniques. Also, I am starting to make work fully focused on the inner most me, the work is becoming far more personal and intimate. I am looking forward to further growth.

Until the next time,

Make good choices,

-Jacquie OB
